Publicity Secretary of the Yoruba Socio-political group, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, yesterday said that President Muhammadu Buhari should have submitted the names of ministerial nominees at Eagle Square on May 29. He said the four months wait had come to nothing as there were no exciting names on the list. Reacting to the speculated names of possible ministers, Odumakin said Buhari did not surprise anyone. He said: “There is no excitement or surprise in the list. They are mostly run of the mill people that do not warrant waiting four months to have. Those names could have been submitted at Eagles square on May 29.” Senate President Bukola Saraki had Wednesday received the first 21 nominees to make President Buhari ministerial list. Traders at Ladipo Main Market in Mushin, Lagos State, western Nigeria, were in shock and tears as bulldozer and a team of security personnel arrived the market on Thursday to demolish the market for reconstruction. As at 4.30 pm on Thursday shops had been brought down while the exercise continues on Friday. Traders were ordered to leave the market with their goods and when they attempted to resist, the bulldozer moved in and started the demolition. Some goods were destroyed as many of the traders were not in their shops because of the Independence Day celebration and public holiday. Traders and the Mushin Local government had been at loggerheads over plans to re-construct the market and turn it into a modern plaza. The traders, through their leaders alleged that they were not carried along before the plans to re-construct the market was carried out. It was a very sunny day as I drove from Port harcourt to Ughelli, and as usual I stopped at the the roadside stalls on the highway to buy foodstuff(usually prawns and plantain). Surprisingly I saw tortoises of various sizes hanging on from the wooden sheds. I got so curious as I have heard of people eating it and I had never tasted it. So I decided to price one small one, which I eventually bought for #1500. I happily put it in my booth anticipating what delicacy I wud prepare with it. How to kill it and remove shell now became the next issue, I've only heard of about people removing the shell with very hot water. Luckily for I found someone who was going to kill but instead of using hot water, the tortoise was heated on a stove to make it easy to remove the meat out of the shell. Thirty-five-year-old Nelson, who stabbed his father, Sunday Oamen, to death, in Abesan Estate, in the Ipaja area of Lagos State, has said he did it because his father always scolded him. Oamen, who is currently being detained at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that he had smoked four wraps of Indian hemp before committing the crime. He faulted his parents for not giving him enough training, adding that he hated them for always talking down on him. Our correspondent had reported last week Monday that Nelson, a suspected drug addict, stabbed his 75-year-old father to death on Friday, September 23. Two weeks after a 14-year-old girl, identified only as Rosemary, was rescued from the apartment of her alleged lover, 40-year-old Chukwu Nkenna, the teenager has gone missing again in the Agege area of Lagos. PUNCH Metro learnt that Rosemary, who hails from Jos, Plateau State, had been taken away from Nkenna’s apartment at Obelle Junction, Surulere, on Monday, September 8, by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Our correspondent gathered that Rosemary, who reportedly came to Lagos State in January 2014, had been in the care of a non-governmental organisation interested in girl education, before she left in December 2014, due to financial challenges.
